For but a moment

For But a Moment explores the quiet relationship between a solitary figure and the vast Australian landscape.  A small figure stands within an expansive field of red earth, dwarfed by the scale of the land and the sheltering presence of a eucalypt.

The painting emerged from my fascination with the fleeting moments when we feel connected to place - when light shifts, the landscape opens before us, and we become aware of our own smallness within something enduring.  Expressive layers of oil paint, palette knife and brush create the warmth of the earth, the atmospheric distance and the changing light that gives the landscape its sense of place.
